The location of the museum is ideal for combining a visit to the Garden Museum with another nearby museum. Tate Britain, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and the South Bank are all within walking distance. A pedestrian path leads along the River Thames from the museum to Westminster Bridge (five minutes walk).
 

Booking and
Planning your visit

The maximum class size per visit is 30.
Morning or afternoon sessions are available of one and a half hours duration: 
10.30am – 12.00 or 1pm – 2.30pm. 
Note that the museum opens to the public at 10.30am.
Teachers are welcome to make a preliminary visit in advance for planning and risk assessment purposes.
Packed lunches can be eaten in the museum with advance arrangement.

Charges:
Lambeth schools £2 per pupil
Non-Lambeth schools £4 per pupil

Charges are payable on the day at the door or by invoice after the visit.

Activities

Eco Bags
As part of a strategy to use less paper and photocopied resources with groups and also to encourage children and adults to go ‘plastic bag free’ – most educational groups visiting the museum are given an eco bag activity.  These plain bags are ethically sourced.

Early Years Groups
Activities include seed sowing, learning about watering, drawing.

KS1 – KS2
National Curriculum Science – Life Cycles, Growing plants, Plant Structures and Growth, Helping plants grow well.  There is usually a seed sowing activity. 
National Curriculum Art topics.  Drawing plants in the garden and drawing tools in the collection. 

KS3 – Sixthform
Art activities related to the National Curriculum and GCSE examining boards.

Special Educational Needs/EAL
The museum is an ideal environment for small group visits and pupils with special needs or English as an Additional Language are very welcome.  Hands-on activities can be tailored for the needs of your group with opportunities for multi-sensory learning. 

Gifted & Talented
Examples of activities for Gifted and Talented visits include a maths challenge for Year 5 pupils and botanical painting with artists.

Outreach
Please get in contact regarding any outreach requests. 
There is some availability for schools in Lambeth.

Teachers & INSET
Teachers are welcome to visit the museum in advance of a visit. Occasionally teachers will be invited to exhibitions and other evening events.
