About the Championing Sustainability Traineeship
The aim of this project is to equip young people (four over four years) passionate about both heritage and the environment with the knowledge, skills and advocacy required for a career which will enrich both the individual and the Museum sector through developing sustainability in Museum practice.
Our vision of sustainability is as defined by the Museums Association : “Economic, social and environmental responsibility [and] quality and depth of relationships”. We wish to show that sustainability should be integral to the team-thinking of a successful Museum and are inspired by the precedent of audience development: ten years ago this was a consultant-led process but is now in the sector’s bloodstream.
It is be the first Traineeship of its kind in Museums, and we are excited at the thought that by 2014 four trained individuals will be applying skills and sharing ideas across the country.
Host partners for the project are Dow Jones Architects, Lambeth Council, Suzanne James ltd and Manchester Museum.
This project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund Skills for the Future programme.
Our first trainee, Jade Lauren Cawthray, commenced her traineeship on the 4th April and has a blog charting her progress. You can read it here
Jade was recently mentioned on the Guardian Culture Professionals and in M&H Magazine. Click here to read more
