New Collecting Cultures acquisitions

We are proud to announce some further recent acquisitions from the Heritage Lottery Fund under their scheme Collecting Cultures.  This allows the Museum funding to grow our own unique collection.

In 2011 we acquired  Vauxhall Gardens, shewing the Grand Walk at the Entrance of the Garden, and the Orchestra, with the Music Playing, coloured engraving by J.S. Muller after a drawing by S Wale, c.1760. Johann Sebastian Muller (or John Miller) is buried here at St Mary’s.

This year we also added a coloured mezzotint entitled  The Beautiful Fruit Gatherer, anonymous c.1790.

We were also lucky enough to have added a poster for London underground of Kew Gardens, by Edward Bawden, dated 1937.

As well as these listed here we also have A View of Woobourn in Surry the Seat of Philip Southcote Esqr, coloured engraving by Luke Sullivan 1759 which is pictured on the home page.

All these works were acquired through the generosity of the Collecting Cultures scheme.
