The M&G Garden, Chelsea 2017  James and Helen Basson

Wednesday 24th May, 7.45pm - 9.15pm

Each year during the Chelsea Flower Show the Garden Museum asks the designer of a show garden to tell the story behind a masterpiece on Main Avenue.

This year James and Helen Basson will talk us through the two years which led up to the M&G Garden 2017. Their work, although concentrated in the south of France, derives from the study of landscape and Chelsea 2017 has been an opportunity to distill their philosophy into a set-piece of Maltese rock and plants – and adventures, from working with a botanist on the islands to the exceptional consents required to bring its protected species to the banks of the Thames. And what have James and Helen learned from Malta’s confrontation with the need for a sustainable future?

In a Q&A, chaired by broadcaster and horticulturalist Wesley Kerr OBE, they will be joined by the team from Crocus who have built the garden, and sourced and nurtured its plants.
