Explore the museum’s collection of objects which tell the story of British gardening from the 16th century through to today.

The museum cares for important and rare objects such as a Tudor thumb pot, an early device which was used for gentle watering. Our Mortlake tapestry dates from the 1630s and depicts the earliest image of a woman gardening in our collection. Our collection of photographs illustrates the joy gardens bring to people from the advent of photography through to today. Our collection of postcards illustrates the rise in day trips, holidays and visits to grand country house. They also celebrate the fun and quirky formal bedding such as the floral staircase at Bridlington.
