The aim of our sessions is to enhance the knowledge and understanding of the science of plants by developing plant science sessions that link to the national curriculum. Sessions provide enrichment through practical investigation and use of artefacts from our museum collection, current exhibition and plants in our Community Garden.

The sessions are taught in a dedicated classroom within the museum called the Clore Learning Space which has a capacity of 30 pupils and tailored to Key Stage 3 or Key Stage 4.

Every session involves taking a two-minute walk to our Community Garden and to an area of the museum called the Ark Gallery to view artefacts acquired by the Tradescants, 17th-century gardeners, plant hunters, and founders of the country’s first public museum in Lambeth.

In the Easter holidays our Plant Science Educator, who is a qualified secondary school teacher and postharvest technologist hosts our very popular GCSE Biology revision sessions. Pupils perform a required practical and handle a range of different plants during the revision sessions.
