Lambeth Green is our project to transform 5.3 acres of public realm adjacent to the Garden Museum into a series of interconnected public green spaces, including a landmark new public garden.

The project has received the support of Lambeth Council, TfL, and the Mayor of London, who wrote in support of the mould-breaking approach:

‘The proposals by the Garden Museum are wholly consistent with my ambitions, set out in my Transport Strategy and London Environment Strategy, to improve the public realm and make London’s public realm greener… I am delighted to hear that the Garden Museum are bringing their expertise to bear on the proposals of the remodelling of the southern side of Lambeth Bridge’.

The new landscape, designed by Dan Pearson Studio, will give residents and volunteers places to garden. It will provide essential opportunities to learn about caring for urban green spaces, including apprenticeships in horticulture for local young people. These will be the gardeners of the future.

Phase 1, a new community garden in Old Paradise Gardens, was completed in 2023. Phase 2 will take place next spring: TfL are re-shaping the Lambeth Bridge junction and 300 square metres of what is now road and hard surfacing will become garden and trees. Phase 3 is the re-design of St Mary’s Garden to be a landmark new public garden with a new single-story horticultural pavilion, designed by Mary Duggan Architects. Phase 4 may be several years away, but it is to re-landscape the green areas on the banks of the Thames as a place for people to gather.
