Branch Out | Design and Carve a Letter in Wood

This workshop is part of the Garden Museum’s Branch Out programme, a series of free events and activities exploring gardening, art, floristry, plant science, history, design, and more!

Join woodcarver Alice Ridgway at the Garden Museum for a hands-on workshop exploring traditional lettering. We’ll start with brush and ink to practise classic Roman letterforms, then each participant will choose a letter to carve. In small groups, you’ll learn how to use hand tools and chisels to cut your letter into wood using the v-cut technique. A creative and tactile way to connect with the craft of lettering – and take home your own carved initial!
