This spring, the Garden Museum’s Nave space will be filled with artist Jane Hammond’s botanical collages.

Each piece, meticulously crafted using processes including drawing, painting, photography, recycled objects and digital elements, is in equal parts an exploration of nature and an exercise on how we collate material and imagery from the world around us.

As Hammond states: ‘collage is about surprise…it’s about discontinuity, difference, creating a harmony out of things which have a certain amount of tension between them. Surprise and unpredictability are a big part of it.’

A committed gardener at her home in Massachusetts, Hammond’s knowledge of plants, flora and fauna is at the heart of these unique collages, which push the history of botanical illustration and herbaria into new and unchartered territories.

Presented in partnership with Lyndsey Ingram.
