Urban Contemporary Tapestry Workshop – Weaving Our Garden

Inspired by the Garden Museum’s exhibition Benton End: A Paradise of Pollen and Paint and the work of artist and horticulturalist Cedric Morris, this project brings together painting, textiles, recycled materials, embroidery, and the visual language of Mas and carnival traditions. Together, we will explore the connections between people, migration, plants, biodiversity, and urban life.

The final design has evolved through conversations and creative contributions gathered during Neighbours Day, reflecting the voices and experiences of the local community.

Over three making sessions, participants will contribute to different stages of the artwork’s creation.

Collaborative Construction – Weaving Our Garden

Work collectively to assemble painted and prepared materials into layered textile forms. Using upcycled fabrics, found materials, hand stitching, and embroidery, we will build texture, colour, and pattern while drawing inspiration from carnival-making traditions and sustainable creative practice.
